Presented by BALIF's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee

BALIF hosted a training led by Elena Condes, a criminal defense attorney, and Emily Rose Johns of the National Lawyers Guild, for those interested in providing legal assistance to protestors.  This presentation will give you the basic understanding to help cited and arrested individuals, whether through supporting others with research or advising impacted individuals about how to navigate the system and find representation, if necessary.

Presenters:

Elena Condes is a member of BALIF and has over 26 years of experience defending the rights of accused people in Alameda County and the San Francisco Bay Area from her office in Berkeley, CA.  She is also a long time member of the Board of the East Bay La Raza Lawyers Association.

EmilyRose Johns is an Associate of Siegel, Yee, Brunner, and Mehta.   She fights tirelessly for her clients and has amassed numerous victories in the areas of prisoners’ rights, police misconduct, discrimination in employment, education, athletic opportunities, and criminal defense.  EmilyRose is an active member of the National Lawyers Guild and serves on several local committees, including the demonstrations committee and the NextGen committee.  She also serves on the legal committee of the Anti Police-Terror Project.
