The Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County’s Housing Team is seeking an attorney to join us on the front lines of the housing crisis. This role focuses on defending low-income tenants facing eviction, enforcing tenant protections through advocacy and impact litigation, and advancing equitable housing policies alongside impacted communities. The attorney will manage an active eviction defense caseload, represent clients in unlawful detainer matters, conduct settlement negotiations and court appearances, and advocate on issues involving discrimination, reasonable accommodations, retaliation, habitability, harassment, subsidized housing, and rent increases. The position also includes direct client consultation, tenant education workshops, community outreach, and collaboration with regional partners and community organizations to support local and state policy efforts that protect housing stability for low-income tenants.
