BALIF and BASF will be honoring Jerome Roth, Mark Conrad and Miriam Seifter
of Munger, Tolles and Olson who represented BALIF, BASF and other groups in
an amicus filing in the Perry v. Schwarzenegger case. Following the awards,
members of the Perry trial team from Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, the San
Francisco City Attorney’s office and others will provide an inside
perspective on the Prop 8 trial, Judge Walker’s decision, and what comes
next as the Prop. 8 federal challenge moves forward.

Perry v. Schwarzenegger Decision Today! Join BALIF in Community Rally! The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California announced today that it is releasing its decision in Perry v. Schwarzenegger, the federal court case addressing the constitutionality of California Proposition 8. Whatever the ruling, please join BALIF and other LGBT groups at the corner of Castro and Market streets in San Francisco at 5:00 p.m. for a community rally, followed by a march to City Hall. In the race against incumbent Judge Richard Ulmer (Seat No. 15), Judge Ulmer came in second highest in the vote, with openly gay attorney Michael Nava leading all candidates with 45% of the vote. Mr. Nava was endorsed by BALIF and will face Judge Ulmer in a runoff election in November. Former BALIF Co-Chair Dan Dean was also endorsed by BALIF and placed third in the race.

In Memory of Scott Whitsett

BALIF is saddened by the loss of Scott Whitsett who passed away last month at the age of 49.  Our thoughts go out to his husband, Ted Glaza.  Scott was a wonderful man and member of the BALIF community.  He will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Scott’s memory to the charities he actively supported: Human Rights Campaign (www.hrc.org), Lambda Legal (www.lambdalegal.org) or the San Francisco AIDs Foundation (www.sfaf.org).
